WWE icon Goldberg is one of the most dominant performers ever to walk the professional wrestling ring. One may gauge his supremacy by considering that, before his first loss in WCW, he had won 173 straight matches. This was his remarkable winning streak. Since the promotion’s founding, the former Universal Champion has been a well-known character in Stamford, and fans have praised his run of matches.
Fans from both the Attitude Era and the Modern Era adore Goldberg’s famous entrance, which has remained consistent throughout his career. During his peak years in WCW, he made many enemies with his unorthodox wrestling style. A fellow WWE Hall of Famer was among the celebrities on the list. That veteran is none other than Bret Hart.
The Canadian icon and Goldberg squared off in a no-disqualification match for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship at Starrcade in December 1999. It became famous for Bret’s ultimate downfall as Goldberg’s botched kick during the match injured Bret which ultimately led to his retirement shortly. During the newest series about the downfall of WCW named “Who Killed WCW”, both the legends went back and forth talking about the move and how it ended Bret’s career.
As the Hitman discussed the move being ill-executed and not in the plans, Goldberg shows no regrets and calls the move a part of the deal. On Bret’s remarks, Goldberg then made an unrepentant argument that Hart should have shielded himself since he knew the kick would come. “You should protect yourself, you knew the kick was coming right? It was in the deal.”, stated Goldberg.

The former Universal Champion heavily believes that it was Bret’s fault for not covering himself despite Goldberg’s warning about the incoming kick. During the newest series, Bret had his own choice of words for the Hall of Famer for ending his career.
Bret Hart still believes the ‘kick’ was not an accident
In the most recent episode of “Who Killed WCW?”, Bret Hart disclosed that he expressly instructed Goldberg not to injure him when they arrived at the ring. “I walked out to the ring with Bill that night I looked him in the eye and said “Don’t hurt me out there, you need to trust me” and it all went in one ear and out the other,” said Bret.
Bret also revealed that he was not informed about the kick to be performed and was confused when Goldberg stated about the same. The former Universal Champion further claims it to be an accident and was sad that it happened to Bret. The Hitman blasted on Goldberg saying “No Bill, that’s not an accident, that’s a career-ending injury, you idiot.” , yelled Bret in anger.
He was unhappy as Goldberg didn’t looked apologetic towards the horrific injury he caused. The Canadian Hero further stated how sad he was in the ring knowing his career was almost over.
Goldberg’s devastating kick badly affected Bret Hart’s wrestling career
The two icons engaged in a quick match that lasted for several minutes. Hart was ultimately the one who emerged victorious. But there was a cost associated with the victory. Hart had a concussion after Goldberg delivered a superkick to his head during the fight. Hart’s career ultimately suffered a deadly blow as a result of this.
He has been very honest about the incident and his opponent in particular ever since. In a previous interview, he also stated that Goldberg destroyed his glitzy career and cost him sixteen million dollars in a matter of seconds. In December 1997, Bret Hart joined World Championship Wrestling (WCW). After that, he was the star of multiple Premium Live Events and took part in multiple storylines.

He also has a long list of championships won. This includes taking home the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship four times, the WCW World Tag Team Championship once, the WCW World Heavyweight Championship twice, and more. In September 2000, Hart made his final appearance in WCW and confronted Goldberg about his injuries. The WWE icon then declared his retirement in October of that same year.
Thus, it appears that Bret Hart’s injuries may have caused his WCW career to end prematurely. He no longer appears in any pro wrestling promotions as of right moment. Nevertheless, he has left a legacy that his devoted followers will always treasure.
