However, over the last couple of years, Daniel has had a bit of a troubled history with the law.

Sam Kerr’s brother, Daniel, is a former Australian football player who used to play in the Australian Football League (AFL). Daniel, who used to play for the West Coast Eagles, won the West Coast Premiership once. He has also won the Geoff Christian medal twice, as well as the Goal of the Year in 2007. He was also included in the All-Australian team back in 2007.
Daniel Kerr was found guilty of arson and was sentenced to jail a few years ago. Back in 2021, Kerr reportedly set fire to his family home in Kardinya. While Kerr drove off after setting the fire; fortunately, no one else was present at the house. It was the neighbors who spotted Kerr shouting and waving his arms while driving and saw smoke emerging from the former footballer’s property.
After the neighbors alerted the authorities, Daniel Kerr was arrested sometime later at his nearby car wash business. However, upon being interrogated, Daniel stated that he had no recollection of setting fire to his house. Moreover, his lawyer told the court that he had been suffering from schizophrenia and was diagnosed while in custody.

As per reports, Daniel had caused approximately $250,000 worth of damage to properties. Upon being presented in court, the 40-year-old admitted to the charges leveled against him. He was served with a two-year sentence in 2023, backdated to his initial arrest in 2021. However, due to his mental health issues and issues with the inmates, Kerr was withdrawn from mainstream prison life.

Meanwhile, getting jailed for arson hasn’t been the first instance that Daniel Kerr has clashed with the law. The former West Coast Eagles star has had several instances where has been found to be on the wrong side of the law. He has had a troubled history with alcohol and substance abuse. He has also been accused of physical and verbal abuse, which includes brawling and indulging in drugs at nightclubs.
Due to Daniel’s erratic life, his relationship with his young sister, Sam, was adversely affected. The siblings were not on speaking terms for a long period of time. Sam also opened up about her relationship with her brother a few years ago, back in 2020. Despite admitting to being “super close” with her brother, Daniel and Sam didn’t speak to each other for as long as two years.

She said, “All our family’s close but me and Daniel are super-close.” The Chelsea star admitted that learning his lessons the hard way suited her brother and was also probably good for her. Moreover, Daniel also credits his family and his sister for helping him get his life back on track. Lastly, he also disclosed that his sister’s tough love was responsible for helping him get his life back on track before he ultimately got arrested for arson.
