Dataminer finds a Pal that looks like Pokemon’s Mewtwo
Recently in an interview a Palworld dataminer, Brian Cozzens, revealed that they had found a Pal in the game’s code that bears a lot of similarities to Pokemon‘s character Mewtwo. The dataminer claims that the character is a black and purple beastie and is codenamed “Dark Mutant” in Palworld’s files. However, that is subject to change considering it has not been officially introduced in the game yet.

The images of Dark Mutant and Mewtwo placed side-by-side have also been leaked. The images clearly showcase how the character takes more-than-required inspiration from Mewtwo. Additionally, Pocketpair‘s description of Dark Mutant states that it can tear holes through dimensions, indicating that it might fit as a psychic ability.
Palworld was as it is facing a hard time after Nintendo‘s statement. And if this leaked character turns out to be true, the Palworld developers could just be subjected to more trouble. Apart from the appearance, the ability to potential to tear through dimensions makes it interesting to see how these abilities blend with the ARK-style gameplay.
What is going on between Palworld and Nintendo?
Palworld launched in early access on January 18, 2024, after a lot of controversies. In no time the game turned out to be a huge hit attracting players and selling copies within just a few hours. Just when everything was going smoothly, the makers of Pokemon, Nintendo issued a public statement against the new game.
Although they did not take any harsh steps, they stated that they are investigating “another company’s” game after receiving several inquiries. Meanwhile, a fan posted a video of a Pokemon mod in Palworld that turned Pals into Pokemon. Nintendo quickly had the video taken down issuing a DMCA notice.
Nintendo has decided to step into the action because Palworld’s similarities to Pokémon are not hard to notice. Apart from the similar-looking characters and environment, Palworld also takes heavy inspiration from Pokemon’s ARK style. The only thing that sets it apart is the inclusion of a survival crafting mechanism and guns used in Palworld.
Palworld has attracted a lot of attention and criticism for these reasons ever since its initial trailers. However, Nintendo and The Pokemon Company did not react. Even after the game launched and enjoyed great success, Nintendo was hushed for days before finally issuing the statement. That being said, they haven’t taken any action yet.
They stated that they were investigating and would take legal action if they found any traces of infringement or breach of copyright. Meanwhile, a few days ago the incident of fans sending death threats to Palworld developers also surfaced.
