After postponing the release of Destiny 2’s much-awaited season, The Final Shape, developers have announced a new update that will arrive before the season. In other words, the update ‘Into the Light’ will fill the void in the absence of The Final Shape.
Bungie’s Joe Blackburn, game director for Destiny 2, went on record back in October 2023 to reveal their plans going forward. In the YouTube video, he informed the Destiny community that the next and final expansion of the game, named The Final Shape, has been delayed by over three months.
Originally planned to release towards the end of February 2024, the expansion was pushed further to June 4, 2024. Apart from details about The Final Shape, Joe’s stream also included a cryptic mention of an upcoming update called ‘Into the Light.’
Destiny 2 Into the Light announced
In the video, Joe Blackburn stated that the Into the Light update will help players, both newcomers and veterans, prepare for the upcoming Final Shape. He spent merely half a minute talking about the update, not disclosing any crucial information, except that they would talk about it more in the New Year.
His exact words were, “We’re going to be talking about a new period of Destiny we’re calling Destiny 2: Into the Light. You know, as we get closer to Into the Light, we’re going be talking more about it in the new year.”
Joe Blackburn added further, “But this is really built not only for the folks that have played Destiny for 5,000 hours but also for your friends, for your family, for people that are just getting into Destiny and want to prepare for The Final Shape.”
Living up to their promise, the Destiny 2 Into the Light content update was recently announced with a poster. Although they did not reveal much about it, they gave a release date that the players could look forward to. As specified by Joe, this update will act as a stepping stone for anyone who wishes to get into The Final Shape expansion. Whether it is a Destiny 2 veteran or someone who has never played the game before.
Destiny 2 Into the Light release date
Destiny 2 Into the Light was given a confirmed release date. Earlier, Bungie had only mentioned a tentative release date, saying, “Beginning in April, we’re delivering a two-month content update available to everyone called Destiny 2: Into the Light, which will prepare players for their Guardian’s journey into the Traveler.”

The recent announcement confirms that the Into the Light update runs between April and May 2024. It will be followed by the release of The Final Shape on June 4, 2024.
Destiny 2 Into the Light content update is placed between the Season of the Wish and The Final Shape. Some players believe it will be quite similar to the 30th Anniversary update; however, there’s not much information so far.
Nonetheless, keeping in mind Joe’s comment, “want to prepare for The Final Shape” and the Bungie blog saying, “which will prepare players for their Guardian’s journey into the Traveler“. The update will certainly hold a lot of significance.
