When it comes to the history of racing in the Formula 1 championship, Ferrari is the name that stands out the most. Though the Prancing Stallion has not won a major title in recent years, or even the last decade, they have been consistent in giving competition to their rivals. The Maranello outfit has its reputation as a strong team because of their earlier years winning titles with amazing drivers and innovative engineering.
Ferrari holds the record for the highest number of World Constructors Championship victories, having won the title 16 times. Ferrari being present since 1950, has had its fair share of top-notch drivers during its world championship history. The Italian conqueror has 39 drivers who have won the world championship Grand Prix for the team. Some of the top drivers include Michael Schumacher, Niki Lauda, Alain Prost, Fernando Alonso, Kimi Raikkonen, John Surtees, and many more.
How many F1 teams use Ferrari PU?
When it comes to power units (PU), the Formula 1 community is divided into two teams – the work team and the customer team. Some of the teams manufacture it for their cars and sell it to other teams as well so that they can participate and compete in the track.
Four of the main manufacturers, Honda, Ferrari, Mercedes, and Renault, supply power units to the whole F1 grid, including their own teams. The FIA in recent years has introduced regulations and norms to ensure that every customer team gets the same quality engine to tune and work upon.
Ferrari, being the oldest and the most experienced, has an engine that is considered the most powerful engine in the whole F1 community. Incredible teams like Stake F1 Team, and Team Haas use Ferrari’s power unit for their cars.
The newly rebranded Stake F1 Team has a long history in Formula 1. The Italian team has been using Ferrari’s power units since the 2018 season. The collaboration between the two involves the use of Ferrari engines and other technical components as part of a customer relationship.
Other teams like team Haas are also using Ferrari’s power unit in Formula 1. The team entered the Formula 1 championship in 2016 and since then the American team has had a technical partnership with Ferrari, indicating that it relies on Ferrari for its engines and other technical components.
The FIA revealed that the 2026 season can expect or witness new power unit suppliers/manufacturers with Honda, Ferrari, Mercedes, and Renault, continuing to provide the power units but also the likes of Audi and Red Bull Ford to join in.
