SUMMARY
- Epic Games released a racing game built into Fortnite while collaborating with Psyonix called Rocket Racing.
- The game is a Mario-Kart like racing game that features vehicles from Rocket League.
Fortnite last month introduced three new modes in-game as part of Chapter 5. These three included LEGO Fortnite, Fortnite Festival, and Rocket Racing. The launch of the three new modes marked just the beginning of the gaming multi-verse that Epic Games aims to create within Fortnite.
After the successful launch, it seems like Epic Games is in no mood to relax. Recent leaks and rumors suggest that the developers are working on adding new game modes to the new titles, particularly, Rocket Racing.
Rocket Racing to have a Death Race mode
A recent leak suggests that the Rocket Racing developer, Psyonix, is currently working on a ‘Death Racing’ mode for the game. reportedly, Psyonix, who is also the developer of vehicular soccer video game, Rocket League plans on rolling out a fully-fledged racing mode for Fortnite Rocket Racing.
Fortnite’s Upcoming Racing Mode (Del Mar) will feature a “Death Race” mode.
Currently not much is known about this mode except for the placeholder playlist icon for it, as seen below.

The launch of this mode in Rocket Racing, was in fact rumored much before the title itself had launched. A reliable leaker named ‘iFireMonkey’ had tweeted about the Death Race being a part of “Fortnite’s Upcoming Racing Mode” back in September 2023. Notably Rocket Racing was announced by Fortnite in early December 2023.
However, when the game was released the mode was not present in the game. Recently, another Fortnite data miner ‘BeastFNCreative’ on Reddit has shared the initial details about the new racing mode that the developer is working on. The leaker suggests that the previously outed Death Race mode will “make the track harder to complete by placing objects like spikes,” thus allowing players to slam other players into the walls.

The leaker adds that it will feature “several other deadly obstacles” that will further aggravate the moment-to-moment action in Rocket Racing. Specifics still remain under wraps. In another post on Twitter, the leaker also shared video footage of “one of the first Death Race maps,” which will be called Wedge. The video, credited to ‘SpushFNBR’ highlights an early build of the map.
When is Death Race mode releasing?
By what is known so far, the new mode does look interesting and challenging, thanks to the “harder to complete” component. Fans can eagerly look forward to what’s to come.
That being said, players are reminded that Epic Games is yet to formally confirm the Death Race mode. Thus, a possible release date and other details remain unknown. So far all that is known is leaker SpushFNBR’s claims that the content could be “coming soon.”
