The UFC is one of the world’s premiere MMA organizations. As such, they have often been credited with unearthing some freaks of nature during their time. Now, they are seemingly adding to that list with Robelis Despaigne.
For those unaware, Robelis finished his opponent, Miles Banks, at Fury FC 84 on December 3. Following the 4-second KO victory, UFC matchmaker Mick Maynard immediately contacted Fury FC promoter Eric Garcia. To put matters into context, Banks was yet to be lifted off the canvas. However, the UFC matchmaker wasted no time in securing the absolute behemoth that is Robelis Despaigne.

Soon thereafter, ring announcer J. Wayne Leggett revealed that ‘The Big Boy‘ had just been signed to the UFC. Despite only four MMA fights under his belt, the UFC promptly signed their next prospect. Notably, an alarming state here is that Robelis’ last three fights have ended within 19 seconds, combined. Thus, it is clear to see how and why the UFC has moved so quickly for him.
Interestingly, even before the UFC signed him, Robelis had been making waves with his performances. Although he has had an unusually quick journey to the top, fans have nothing but praise for him. As such, let’s try and find out more about Dana White and Co.’s latest pickup.
Robelis Despaigne’s records, achievements, and medals
For the most part, many only know about Robelis due to his brutal KOs and enormous frame. Standing at a gargantuan 6 feet 7 in, the Cuban MMA fighter is a difficult man to miss. Not only that, but Despaigne also has a hulking physique that is sure to intimidate many of his opponents in the future.
As mentioned previously, Robelis has had limited time as an MMA fighter, with only 4 fights, all wins by KO. Before his MMA journey, the Cuban-born fighter was an Olympic bronze medalist in Taekwondo. Previously, the 35-year-old won a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London in the 177 lbs weight class. Additionally, he is also a two-time bronze medalist in the World Championships, in 2013 and 2015.
Not sure I’ve seen this before. 10 minutes after this KO, it’s announced that Despaigne has been signed to the UFC. Confirmed by Mick Maynard. pic.twitter.com/AvcikJkDjI

Born in Santiago de Cuba, Despaigne is a seasoned athlete and not just a happy-go-lucky fighter with beginner’s luck. Over the years, he has perfected an entirely different combat sport and has now brought his skills to MMA. Labeled as a freak of nature by some fans online, Despaigne will be a welcome addition to the heavyweight roster.
Already having the largest reach (87 in) in UFC history, Robelis promises to be an exciting watch. Owing to an injury to Jon Jones, the division has come to an untimely halt. All things considered, many feel that Despaigne can come in and replicate similar success to that of Alex Pereira. Will he truly live up to the hype or be just another name on the roster?
