Destiny 2 is not alien to creating and being a part of controversies. Just when Destiny 2 was enjoying appreciation and praise for its latest season, it found itself in a new controversy, facing backlash from the fans.
The game has earlier faced criticism for multiple reasons, including an inclusivity initiative they undertook to commemorate the Hispanic month. Besides, it also faced a lot of flak for its recent layoffs, wherein the developers reportedly let go of around 8% of its workforce across all departments.
Recently, Bungie quietly released a new ‘Destiny 2 Starter Pack’ for an affordable price of $15. But as soon as the players jumped into action on this starter pack, it was a clear disappointment.

The pack includes three Exotics, namely, the Traveler’s Chosen Sidearm, Ruinous Effigy trace rifle, and Sleeper Simulant linear fusion rifle. Players also get a cosmetic-only Sparrow hoverbike and spaceship, along with an Exotic Ghost shell that has the most marginal of benefits over readily available non-Exotic shells.
Finally, the players get 125,000 Glimmer, 50 Enhancement Cores, five Enhancement Prisms, and one Ascendant Shard for upgrading their gear in the pack.
Destiny 2 Starter Pack leaves fans disappointed
The community was quite relieved to learn that Bungie had released a new “Destiny 2 Starter Pack” costing just $15. It proved to be an affordable way to jump into a rather hard-to-start title. However, the community was disappointed on realizing that it was a bunch of waste that further made the game’s position even worse.
For reasons more than one, fans found that none of the pack’s offerings was worth much. All the rewards in the pack are basically old Exotics, which can easily be unlocked in-game via the Lost Lights monument. Besides, none of them are that great or essential either.
Traveler’s Chosen falls short against another ability-refunding Exotic in the best builds. Ruinous Effigy gets a nerf so hard that it has ended up becoming worthless in any difficult content. Additionally, Sleeper Simulant seems to be pretty weak in the absence of the catalyst that players need to unlock via gameplay.
Talking of the Glimmer, fans believe it can simply be bought in bulk from the Cryptarch. The enhancement materials look decent but are minor. This set of materials can easily be found in the Guardian’s pocket while running their armor through the wash.
Fans are of the opinion that it is as good as pay-to-get-nothing-of-value. Just when the fans think that Destiny 2 desperately needs an actual starter pack, this one arrives as a sheer disappointment. The game instead needs a starter pack that can give new players easy and affordable access to current content.
