Lionel Scaloni has turned out to be a successful manager for the Argentina national team over the last five years. The Pujato-born manager has exceeded expectations when it comes to handling the team at the biggest stages of international soccer.
The 45-year-old Lionel Scaloni led Argentina to the FIFA World Cup 2022 title. The World Cup title that the country won after a gap of 36 years. He also managed the team when they lifted the Copa America Cup in the year 2021.
The veteran manager is now managing Argentina in the ongoing World Cup Qualifiers in which his team recently defeated Brazil. However, as per a recently published report, the 45-year-old has exited Maracana as La Albiceleste’s coach. The report further states that, despite leaving, Lionel hasn’t resigned, and is pretty much still Argentina’s coach.

The report further reflects that there are some internal issues between Lionel and probably Chiqui Tapia (President of the Argentine Soccer Association). Reportedly, a possible disagreement on some point has come out in the form of anger from the team’s head coach. The report conveys, that even the players of the team know that their Coach is not happy about something.
The fans of the La Albiceleste would not want their current head coach to leave his position on the back of such issues. They would know that their team is on the right track, with the right manager and players to compete for more trophies on the international stage.
However, no statement regarding the reported incident has been given by Argentina’s national team hierarchy as of now. It remains to be seen if more reported news regarding Lionel Scaloni’s current situation as the team’s head coach surfaces in the near future.
Current contract details of Lionel Scaloni with the Argentina national team
The 45-year-old was appointed as the manager of Argentina about five years ago in August 2018. He has almost three more years left on his current contract with La Albiceleste, as it expires on December 2026. He has also previously donned the role of Argentina’s assistant manager.
His annual salary in his current managerial stint with his country is approximately around $2.70 million. With this amount, his monthly salary would hover around the mark of $225k. As per the reports, he’s the sixth highest-remunerated manager in the soccer world right now.
