A new set of leaks about Assassin’s Creed Red have surfaced on the internet, suggesting that the upcoming title Ubisoft seems to be taking inspiration from FromSofware’s popular title, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. The information was leaked by a well-known Ubisoft leaker who shared a host of other previously unreported details about the upcoming game.
Interestingly, this leak surfaced just a few days after another report suggested that Assassin’s Creed Red’s protagonist will include a samurai called Yasuke.

The upcoming title which is rumored to release sometime in 2024, will be the first Japan-set entry in the long-running franchise. It is also rumored to feature at least one additional playable character.
Assassin’s Creed Red is similar to Sekiro?
French YouTuber ‘j0nathan,’ who has a track record of sharing Ubisoft scoops and leaks, recently shared a long list of new leaks about Assassin’s Creed Red. The video runs for a good close to 20 minutes, including several previously unreported details about the game. The leaker also claimed that the next mainline Assassin’s Creed installment involves a grappling hook identical to Sekiro.
The resemblances between Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Red and FromSoftware’s 2019 Sekiro goes beyond the grappling hook. According to the leaker, the combat will also incorporate a posture bar that players can fill to destabilize enemies.
The YouTuber also reported that Red would have a bigger world than the previous Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. However, the map will still be smaller than that of Odyssey. Ubisoft is also experimenting with the idea of getting rid of an abundance of map markers.
Here are all the leaks that were revealed:
- New and returning stealth mechanics – Extinguishing torches to create hiding spots, going prone as an alternative to crouching, and hiding in tall grass
- Sekiro-like gameplay elements – Grappling hook and Enemy posture meter
- A map that’s larger than Valhalla’s, but smaller than Odyssey’s – Ubisoft might get rid of many map markers in favor of more immersive player guidance
- Many new and returning gadgets, such as bells, smoke bombs, shuriken, and kunai
- Camp commanders who can be killed for loot, or spared and recruited as spies, who will then provide the player with intelligence
The alleged spy system is reported to be tied to the game’s camp liberation mechanics, just like those from many past Ubisoft games. Every camp in Assassin’s Creed Red will have a total of 11 commanders that players can kill or spare. Killing will reward players with loot while sparing will result in the spared character entering the protagonist’s spy network and providing them with mission-related intelligence.
The leak also mentioned that Red would place players against ashigaru, who is a type of feudal-era Japanese infantry traditionally armed with primitive rifles known as matchlocks. The leaker claims that the game is filled with gadgets, including kunai, shuriken, smoke bombs, and even bells.
