Although the current version of World of Warcraft is enjoyed by millions of players globally, there are still a huge number of nostalgic Warcraft fans who crave the classic version of the game, released in 2004, wanting to re-experience the content and gameplay that initially fascinated them.
Blizzard Entertainment identified this chance and decided to release WoW Classic back in 2019 with the intention of catering to the veteran player base. Post that, the Classic servers have significantly evolved as Blizzard is always rereleasing expansion packs for the game. Several gamers were even wondering what was next in store for WoW Classic post the end of WOTLK Classic. All the questions of the fans were answered at the BlizzCon 2023.
Everything to know about World of Warcraft Cataclysm Classic
As announced by Holly, the game is currently slated to release in the first half of 2024. That is when the current Wrath of the Lich King progression servers will transform into Cataclysm-era servers. To be precise, the Blizzard page for the game notes, “Cataclysm Classic will launch on or before August 31, 2023.”
The executive producer also revealed a new epic and action-packed trailer for the expansion. The trailer features some of the legendary villains from the Warcraft universe, including Ragnaros and Deathwing. Holly also took the opportunity to tell fans that Cataclysm Classic will include some important gameplay changes and quality-of-life features based on player feedback. However, at the moment, the specific changes are not known yet.
Regarding the price of the upcoming expansion, the official Battle.net page of the game states that Cataclysm Classic will be included with the player’s WoW Subscription once the game launches or will require game time to play. The website also notes that currently, the game is only for Windows and Mac platforms. Besides, it will be available in four regions, namely, the Americas & Oceania, Europe, Korea, and Taiwan, in 11 different languages.
When it was first released in December 2010, Cataclysm was thought to be a controversial WoW expansion by several gamers. This is because it completely changed the original game world, made leveling considerably easier, and substantially modified the gameplay of many classes. However, the title also enjoyed a reasonable share of admirers, who praised the expansions’ epic storyline, PvP balance, and challenging dungeons.
Given its history, it will be interesting to see how successful the upcoming Classic iteration of Cataclysm turns out to be.
