Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 hasn’t stopped making headlines ever since it was initially announced. And the buzz hasn’t stopped even now that the game has finally been released. Spider-Man 2 released on PlayStation 5 on October 20, 2023.
The highly praised game has been giving players a lot of content to play around. As the two Spider-Men, Miles Morales and Peter Parker swing around New York City, they are faced with several bad guys that they must defeat. One of the most notorious and dreaded antagonists in the game is the Venom.
With Venom returning to the super-hero game, the infamous Anti-Venom suit will also be seen in Spider-Man 2. The Anti-Venom suit is not particularly a new introduction, since the symbiote first appeared in 2008 in the Marvel comic.
The Anti-Venom symbiote is based on the character of the same name who first appeared in the The Amazing Spider-Man #569 comic from 2008.
What is Anti-venom suit in Spider-Man 2?
Spider-Man 2 brings along a variety of suits among which is the Anti-Venom suit. The suit is unlocked during the thirty and the penultimate main mission is named “Set Things Right.” After Miles and Mr. Negative defeat the symbiotes in the alternate dimension, they come back to the real world. Here Peter is not only healed but also gets the new Anti-Venom suit with different abilities.
The anti-venom symbiote is a combination or rather a chemical bond of the remaining Venom cells in Peter’s body and Mr. Negative’s White Energy cells. The suit created by the joint effort of Miles Morales and Martin Li gives Spider-Man a way to take on symbiotes permanently.
The Spider-Man can then even use it against Venom himself, to do some serious damage to the villain several times before finally purging the symbiote off Harry Osborn. After the incident, the symbiote has no sentience, and hence it’s likely that Peter keeps the symbiote.
The Anti-Venom symbiote was created after Martin Li used his powers to save Peter from being re-infected into a raging form of Black Suit in Spider-Man 2. The traces of the symbiote left behind by Venom led to the creation of an all-new suit, which has many similar abilities to that of Venom’s along with some additional abilities which the alien did not have.
Some of the abilities of the anti-Venom suit include:
- Shapeshifting – Anti-Venom is capable of shapeshifting its body into whatever the person wearing it desires, just like Venom.
- Regeneration – In the game, it is seen that after a fight with Venom, Anti-Venom is seen to be damaged, however, sometime later, the suit is restored, suggesting its ability to regenerate itself.
- Energy Generation – Similar to Venom, Anti-Venom is capable of generating powerful bursts of energy, that can easily damage other symbiotes. So much that symbiotes could be purged from the host.
- Host Enhancement – The Anti-Venom symbiote is capable of enhancing the wearer’s physical abilities similar to Venom. With this Spider-Man can attack criminals and even symbiotes with far greater physical strength and greater speed.
- External Symbiote Rejection – Anti-Venom can protect its host from being taken over by other symbiotes, including Venom. When Venom was able to bind Spider-Man and attempted to infect him with a symbiote, the Anti-Venom suit prevented this from happening.
- Sound Immunity – Unlike most symbiotes, which are vulnerable to the effects of sound, Anti-Venom is immune to the effects of the species’ weakness.
The Anti-Venom symbiote was originally born from Martin Li’s attempt to cure Eddie Brock’s cancer in the 2008 comic. In the process of curing Eddie, Li accidentally infuses the remnants of the Venom symbiote within Eddie’s body with his powers and fuses them into Eddie’s white blood cells.
