Luka Doncic is someone who always shows up and dominates. However, the Slovenian superstar has been missing in action due to an injury he sustained earlier this month. This wasn’t a good look for the Dallas Mavericks, especially after the upsetting preseason run they had. The team lost three out of four preseason games which included an exhibition match against Madrid.
However, the 24-year-old recently gave a positive update on his injury. A reporter asked him about the current state of the injury to which he replied, “It’s better.” He added, “I’ve been practicing for two days now, so I feel pretty good. But we’ll see how it feels tomorrow morning.” He also added that he has been able to do everything in practice. Earlier, Luka was limited to spot shooting and cardio exercises.

Considering what the upcoming season means to the Mavericks, they cannot afford to lose Luka Doncic for a prolonged period. Last season, the Mavericks did not make it to the playoffs which was quite unfortunate, especially after reaching the Conference Finals the season before. Dallas will have to prove that Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic fit well together and that their off-season moves were good decisions.
What injury has Luka Doncic suffered?
It was quite a bitter-sweet moment for Luka Doncic during the Mavericks’ exhibition game against Real Madrid. The youngster competed professionally in Madrid for some time before getting drafted into the NBA. So to come back to Madrid and perform at the highest stage of his career would’ve been an inspiring moment. That was until the injury took place and Doncic was removed from rotation five minutes into play.
By this time, the Mavericks were coming two consecutive losses against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Unfortunately, they ended up losing at Madrid as well. Sources initially reported that he felt pain in the lower half of his body. However, it was later confirmed that Luka suffered from a calf strain.
Head Coach Jason Kidd did not have anything positive to say. Besides the fact that Luka Doncic was receiving medical attention. Kidd claimed that there was no timeline set for his return, putting the Mavericks in a terrible position at the start of the season. However, it doesn’t seem like Doncic is taking much of a hit from the injury as he claims he feels far better. This is a great sign for the Mavericks as well.
