Former New England Patriots safety Sergio Brown and his mother Myrtle Brown were reported missing since September by family members. A police search was launched to find the missing duo after family members launched a complaint. While Brown is still alive, his mother met with an unfortunate death. Sergio Brown has featured in the NFL for the New England Patriots, Jacksonville Jaguars, Indianapolis Colts and the Buffalo Bills.
Myrtle Brown’s body was recovered from a creek which was less than 100 yards away from her home. The Maywood Police Department found the 73 year olds body near the creek. However Sergio Brown was still missing at that point of time.
After her body was recovered, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office reported that the cause of her death seems to be physical assault. They said “multiple injuries due to assault” is the reason for her demise and it looks like a case of homicide.
Sergio Brown is arrested on suspicion of his mother’s murder
Police have confirmed that they have now arrested Sergio Brown who was missing for a month since his mother’s death. Sergio Brown was returning from Sinaloa, Mexico and was caught on his way back while entering the United States. He is now waiting for extradition to Illinois wherein he will be facing the charges as per a statement by the Maywood Police Department.

A warrant was issued for first-degree murder in relation to the death of his mother. Apparently the Mexican police authorities were aware of Sergio Brown’s location since 2019. However they could not act on it or help U.S. officials until an arrest warrant was issued in his name. Brown is being held in custody after a felony fugitive arrest warrant was issued against him.
Earlier statements had been taken from Sergio Brown’s neighbour when the police were gathering evidence. A neighbour named Carlos Cortez then had told the media that the police had found out videos of Sergio Brown burning his mother’s clothes before the duo went missing.
“Myrtle, she was an outstanding woman, and I’m hoping she’s in the right place and she’s with God. Like I said, I never would’ve expected this in a million years. You only watch this on TV. And to know this happened next door, it’s a tragedy,” Cortez said.
“They seen him taking out the trash, and they seen him have a bonfire where he burned all her clothes,” Cortez said. He also shared that Sergio Brown was not acting like himself over the last few months before his disappearance.
