Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios is well-known for his antics on the court. He recently appeared in the latest episode of Hotboxin’ With Mike Tyson, where he made some interesting revelations about his career. Kyrgios divulged about staying at a pub till 4 AM the morning before he locked horns with Rafael Nadal.
Nick has been on the sidelines this year due to his injuries. He is very active on social media and has never shied away from speaking his mind. Thus, Kyrgios was the perfect candidate to appear in the podcast. And he did not disappoint with his stories.
Kyrgios recounted drinking at a pub till 4 AM, on the morning he was supposed to play Nadal at Wimbledon. The two were due to clash in the second round. Nick confessed that his agent had to drag him out of the pub.
“There were nights when I was… I was in a pub till 4 a.m. before I played Rafa at Wimbledon one year. My old agent had to drag me out of the pub,” said Kyrgios (via Tennis World USA).
It was an exciting match nevertheless, that took over three hours to finish. Nadal had easily won the first set before Kyrgios equalized it in the second. The next two sets went to tiebreaks and the Spaniard finally triumphed over Nick.
During the podcast, Kyrgios gave an interesting insight into his views and his career. He named the player who was the hardest to defeat- it was none other than Roger Federer.
Nick Kyrgios has previously spoken about his love for drinking. However, he took it up a notch by doing it before a match. While the end result may not have gone his way, it made for a good story.
Nick Kyrgios vs. Rafael Nadal head-to-head
Kyrgios announced his arrival on the tennis scene when he defeated Nadal as a teenager. It was during Wimbledon in 2014, and a young Kyrgios walked away with a victory.
Since then, the two have played against each other eight more times, with the Spaniard leading the head-to-head. Last year, they were supposed to play against each other during the semifinal at Wimbledon. However, Nadal withdrew due to an unfortunate injury, and Kyrgios made it to his first-ever Grand Slam final.
Both Kyrgios and Nadal are incredible players and their matches are a treat to watch. So far, Nadal has won six of their nine encounters. As of now, both Nick Kyrgios and Rafael Nadal are on the sidelines due to injuries.
