Alan Wake 2, developed by Remedy Entertainment, is the sequel to the critically acclaimed psychological horror game Alan Wake. The franchise has been around since 2010 and has garnered a dedicated fan base. The original Alan Wake was set in the fictional town of Bright Falls.
This was where players had to navigate a world filled with darkness and malevolent forces. The sequel takes this concept further by setting the game in a twisted version of New York City. It is known as the Dark Place. Here, players navigate roads from a central square to reach various destinations.

The game features inventive environmental puzzle-solving, where players can use Alan’s new Dark Place Lamp (DPL), a light-capturing rod, to circumvent obstacles and create new paths by absorbing light charges.
Alan Wake 2 also introduces a feature called “Echoes.” This reveals story moments via live-action scenes overlayed on top of the gameplay. The game is set to release on October 27. Further, the game promises to link Bright Falls, Control, and Max Payne in a connected universe.
Graphic modes available on Alan Wake 2
The developers of Alan Wake 2 created stunning graphics, visuals, and scenes for the game. Moreover, the recent pre-release gameplay release of IGN also showcases huge promise in terms of graphics in Alan Wake 2.
Remedy Entertainment has confirmed that Alan Wake 2 will feature a Performance Mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X. Initially, the developers prioritized the visuals and ambiance of the game by designing it to run at 30fps. However, they have since added a Performance Mode, which the developers plan to reveal more details about soon.
It’s worth noting that the Performance Mode is set for the Xbox Series X version. But it remains uncertain if it will be available for the Xbox Series S, leading to questions about its capabilities.
In addition to the Performance Mode, the game will also offer other modes to cater to different player preferences. These include a Cinematic Mode that prioritizes visual fidelity over framerate, possibly turning on ray-tracing, and a Balanced Mode that aims to offer a middle ground between performance and visuals.
This is great.
When you say performance, do you mean unlocked with a 60fps target or a true 60fps lock majority of the time?

Thomas Puha, Remedy’s communications director, announced the inclusion of the Performance Mode in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. When asked about the specifics, such as whether the game would have a 60fps lock.
Puha mentioned that they are “still tweaking that.” The game also faces challenges in maintaining framerate due to its complex environments, especially in the Pacific Northwest, which features a lot of foliage, trees, and expensive lighting.
The Performance Mode is a significant addition, especially for players who prioritize smooth gameplay. It also indicates Remedy’s commitment to providing a comprehensive gaming experience that balances both visual spectacle and performance efficiency.
