Starfield is Bethesda’s upcoming space exploration game. The game is set to be Bethesda’s most ambitious project to date. Touted as a space exploration RPG, it boasts 1000 planets to explore.
The game’s early access will be available to those who have pre-ordered or purchased the premium edition, upgrade, or the Constellation Edition on September 1. For standard edition owners, the wait extends until September 6.
Starfield features 82 skills divided into five categories: Physical, Social, Combat, Science, and Tech. Each skill has four ranks, requiring skill points to unlock. These points are earned as you level up in the game.
The game’s PC specs have also been revealed, requiring an SSD and 125 GB of available space, setting the stage for a high-quality gaming experience. Starfield offers a comprehensive skill system that allows players to customize their characters truly. Players can also try the fan-made character builder to get an early start on their planning.
Starfield’s skill tree dwarfs Skyrim and Fallout
The skill tree is divided into four tiers, with higher stories requiring a set amount of skill points spent on lower-tier skills within that skill tree. The background you choose during character creation determines your first three skills.
As you progress, you’ll earn skill points that can be used to upgrade existing skills or purchase new ones. Some skills even require you to complete gameplay challenges to unlock higher ranks.
Specific skills will be helpful for particular play styles. For instance, the Ballistics skill is an excellent early pick. And as many of the weapons you’ll find early in the game deal ballistic damage. Persuasion is another versatile skill that can save you from difficult combat situations or help you navigate complex missions more efficiently. Wellness and Medicine are also suitable for early selection as they offer extra health benefits.
Starfield introduces various skills that govern interactions with alien species, spaceship resource management, and scientific research. For example, the “Astrobiology” skill opens avenues for discovering new life forms, potentially leading to the development of groundbreaking medicines or potent poisons.
Mastery in “Starship Engineering” offers the ability to modify spacecraft uniquely, such as installing cloaking devices or energy-efficient thrusters. The “Cosmic Diplomacy” skill adds another layer of complexity. Landing on a planet embroiled in civil unrest could become an opportunity for peace-brokering or further instigation, depending on skill level.
Synergies between different skills also exist. High levels in “Astrogeology” and “Resource Management” could turn a player into an interstellar trade tycoon. Starfield’s skill tree promises a dynamic ecosystem of choices and consequences, setting the stage for unparalleled customization and replayability.
