Lewis Hamilton has a lot of tattoos that have a personal meaning to them. However, one of his tattoos has drawn inspiration from the legendary rapper, Tupac. Lewis Hamilton has been known for his fashion. The Brit sets standards at the paddock as he walks in with outfits every weekend. The fans enjoy his fashion and his style so much, that they call weekends the “LH Fashion Week.”
But with his fashion, his style also includes his famous tattoos. The seven-time world champion has multiple tattoos covering his arms chest and back. Although the driver has talked about the tattoos on his arms and his body, he left out his back tattoos. According to Lewis Hamilton, all his tattoos have greater and deeper meaning to them. The driver believes that his tattoos leave behind the memories and the journey that a person has taken to get where they are.
The Mercedes star confessed he has more than a dozen tattoos all over his body. To be quite exact, Hamilton has fifteen pieces of ink work on his body. As much as he loves inking his body, he takes inspiration from his tattoos. All his stories have been inked and power him to only keep going on. However, his interview with GQ was where he shared the meaning behind all his tattoos.
Lewis Hamilton explains his quote “Still I Rise”
The Mercedes driver, Lewis Hamilton talked about all his tattoos and explained the meaning behind each of them. That is when he got to the back tattoo. However, the Silver Arrows star went on to make his own by adding angel wings to its sides. He finished off his tattoo with “Still I Rise” written on top of the cross. When asked about the meaning behind his tattoo, he told GQ,
“I have got a big cross on my back. I mean the idea originally came from Tupac, he was my favorite rapper. And then the ones putting angel wings around it and then the toughest is the “Still I Rise”. It took like 10 hours or something like that just in one go, straightaway and since then I have loved my back. To the point you, know you, you check it out.”
The motto “Still I Rise” was first inspired by Hamilton’s brother Nicholas Hamilton. The driver talked about the motto mentioning his brother’s disability. Nicolas, Hamilton’s little brother endures cerebral palsy. Hamilton explained watching his brother get up, and fall down because of his legs, and then get right back and fall, over and over, was what inspired him.
Watching him do so without giving up even though he could not understand it brought around the birth of Hamilton’s motto which now stays tatted on his back. The motto can also be spotted in the Valentino photoshoot with Lewis Hamilton. His tattoo holds a deep importance to him and motivates him to get right back up in tough times.
