NFL star Josh Jacobs gained center stage after he failed to reach an agreement with the Las Vegas Raiders this year. The future of the running back seemed uncertain after the deadline passed for the franchise-tagged players to sign contracts. However, recent reports suggest that the young talent is all set to return with the Raiders.
Dov Kleiman, an NFL reporter, recently shared a post on X. In the post, he revealed that Josh Jacobs is expected to make his return to the team. As per reports, the running back will join the Patriots before their game against the Denver Broncos.
“Report: #Raiders RB Josh Jacobs will end his holdout and report to the team before Week 1 against the #Broncos,” he wrote in the post.
It’s worth noting that Josh Jacobs hasn’t suffered any monetary loss till now, even after his contract holdout. That’s primarily because Jacobs hasn’t been under any contract all this time. If he returns before the start of the regular season, the star player will reportedly get a good amount back.
Josh Jacobs exhibited an excellent performance with the Raiders last season. The two-time Pro Bowl winner has already proved his worth in the NFL in just four years of his career now. Having him on the team will undoubtedly benefit the Raiders and will impact the team’s performance this season.
Why did Josh Jacobs hold out his contract with the Las Vegas Raiders?
Josh Jacobs began his NFL career with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2019. The team drafted him as their 24th pick in the 1st round that year. The star running back signed a rookie deal with the Raiders for four years worth $11,933,398. It came along with a signing bonus of $6,698,836 and an average salary of $1,957,288 a year.
The rookie contract of the Raiders star was meant to end this year and he reportedly wanted a long-term deal with the team. However, the Raiders, on the other hand, were willing to give him a franchise tag only. It was because of this that Josh Jacobs and the team failed to come to an agreement. Consequently, the star player decided to hold out on his contract.

Some reports suggest that Jacobs wanted to have a five-year option, but the Raiders were not ready for it. The team’s coach, Josh McDaniels, claimed that he had no idea about his comeback. “I don’t have any new news on J.J.,” he said. If Jacobs rejoins the Raiders, he’ll reportedly play on a $10.1 million tag contract for this year. Moreover, if the team tags him again next season, he’ll be getting $12.1 million in 2024.
However, now it seems like the talented player and the Raiders have finally come to an agreement. If the news about his return is true, the Raiders will surely be in a great position in the regular season. Fans are already waiting for Josh Jacobs to take the NFL world by storm once again.
