Chelsea’s latest signing, Moises Caicedo might just have compromised with his dream after signing a $145 million deal. Caicedo made a sudden move to Chelsea after being heavily linked to Liverpool for almost a week. However, his dream didn’t involve any of the two clubs. It was rather Manchester United that had his support when he was younger.
Back in 2020, Caicedo revealed that he was a huge Manchester United fan growing up. He even dreamed of playing for the Red Devils at some point in his career. “My dream is to play for Manchester United. Antonio Valencia is an example to follow. With his strength and dedication, he was able to get to that level. That motivates me to keep working hard and doing the right things,” he said.

Manchester United even made an attempt to sign him but narrowly missed out on signing a midfielder for $6 million in 2020. However, in a recent twist of events, the Ecuadorian executed a record-breaking transfer to Chelsea after intense links with Liverpool over the course of a week.
Caicedo: “Makelele and Kante were an inspiration to me. When I was a kid, I supported Chelsea and used to watch the games. It’s amazing to be here”. 🔵

Following his deal with Chelsea, Caicedo told, “Makelele and Kante were an inspiration to me. When I was a kid, I supported Chelsea and used to watch the games. It’s amazing to be here”. “I don’t hope, I am sure we are going to win a lot of titles with this amazing club, to put #CFC where they deserve to be”.
The fans must have anticipated the transfer but didn’t think twice about making a joke or two about him.
One fan said, “Moises lying straight to the camera,” doubting his passion for Chelsea while growing up.
Why Moises Caicedo rejected Liverpool for Chelsea
Moises Caicedo was expected to join Liverpool three days ago. He was so certain to join the 19-time league champions, that even Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admitted that Liverpool was in pole position and made a bid to sign the Ecuadorian midfielder for a fee of $140 million which was even accepted by Brighton.
However, things took a wild turn when Chelsea hijacked the deal and was successful in agreeing personal terms with Caicedo with immediate effect.

Brighton & Hove Albion CEO Paul Barber recently revealed Moises Caicedo’s decision to opt for a transfer to Chelsea over a move to Liverpool.
Barber told talkSPORT, “Liverpool is a fantastic club – one would assume anyone would jump at the chance to play at Anfield. But, for reasons known to Moises and his advisors, they leaned towards London as their preferred destination.”
The situation placed Brighton in a challenging spot. After negotiating a record British deal and collaborating with Liverpool for nearly a week, they discovered themselves excluded from the decision-making process once the player made his choice, leaving matters exclusively between the player and the Merseyside club.
