Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admits to being wrong after the English club signed Moises Caicedo from Brighton for a record-breaking $140 million fee.
The manager was asked about his thoughts on his past comments at a recent pre-match conference. To which Jurgen Klopp replied, “Everything changed. Do I like it? No. Did I realize I was wrong? Yes, definitely”.
In 2016, the Liverpool manager insisted Liverpool would never buy a player who would cost them $100 million while speaking about Manchester United’s record signing of Paul Pogba from Juventus. However, just seven years later, Klopp has to backtrack on his past statements.
Recalling his words, Klopp said, “That’s the way it goes. It’s not great, it’s not top but that’s the way it goes. It will not go the other way around again. Saudi Arabia will definitely not help with that. Not blaming anybody. It just will not help with it. Another market with a lot of money”.

Klopp went on, “Yeah, in the end, we as a club we have just try to make sure that for us we get, with our resources, with the money we have so we get the best possible team together. And we all know in football it’s like that, 50% will say it, and 50% will say ‘But I would have done this and that.’ So, that’s it”.
“We cannot just point on players and bring them in, there is a lot of work to do. Sometimes one door closes and another opens up. If people want to throw my quotes from five years ago, no problem. I realize I was wrong”.
The Reds had managed to hijack Chelsea target Moises Caicedo with a record-breaking deal. Although as per reports, Chelsea is yet to give up on their target and is believed to continue till the official confirmation.
Jurgen Klopp spent over $100 million on signings so far this season
Liverpool have only spent over $120 million so far this transfer season on their signings. Furthermore, they are also rumored to have agreed on a deal $140 million deal with Brighton for midfielder Moises Caicedo. Although, the Ecuador international is yet to sign an official deal with them.
Jurgen Klopp’s side signed Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Hove Albion for a fee of around $46 million earlier in the summer transfer window. Along with Mac Allister, they also signed Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig this summer for around $76 million.

On the other hand, Premier League rivals Arsenal have already spent more than $200 million this summer. Their rival for Caicedo’s signature, Chelsea had also spent over $500 million last season by signing players like Enzo Fernandez, and Mykhailo Mudryk.
The Reds were also handed with the departure of important players like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Fabinho, and Jordan Henderson this summer. Which is much higher in comparison to the incoming players. Pundit Gary Neville believes that the owners must back their manager Jurgen Klopp if they wish to compete at higher levels.
