Xbox players face a longer wait, possibly until 2024. Microsoft’s publishing policy has put a slump on the developer’s plans. Specifically, the developers need time to adapt the game to the lower-end Series S console to ensure that nothing is lost between the two consoles.
The delay in the Xbox release stems from technical hurdles in adapting the split-screen mode to the lower-end console. Notably, Microsoft’s parity rules require all games to run feature-complete on both Xbox Series X and the lower-powered Series S. Xbox community is expressing disappointment and understanding, recognizing the complexities of Xbox’s Smart Delivery feature.
Far from being exclusive, we have no exclusivity deal that prevents us from launching on Xbox. The issue is a technical hurdle. We cannot remove the split-screen feature because we are obliged to launch with feature parity, and so continue to try and make it work.
