The face of Sky Sports, a reporter named David Croft initiated a conversation about the future of AlphaTauri in F1. AlphaTauri has been having trouble and, owing to Yuki Tsunoda, currently sits at the bottom of the Constructor Standings with only three points to their name after firing their second driver Nyck de Vries which caused a lot of hue and cry in the grid. The focus of the discussion is whether or not to use Red Bull’s successful RB19 car in the competition next year.
Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez’s RB19 has been dominant in all 12 races this season, sealing its legacy in F1 history as one of the best cars ever made. David Croft revealed the possibility that AlphaTauri would be operating the Red Bull car in the following season.
AlphaTauri’s AT04 has been viewed as one of the slowest cars, scoring just three points compared to Alfa Romeo’s nine points. This clearly shows the major contrast between the Red Bull and AlphaTauri cars.

With the recent addition of talented drivers, like Daniel Ricciardo, AlphaTauri is eager for a faster car to improve its performance. The potential partnership with Red Bull Racing could lead to significant changes at AlphaTauri, including changes in staff and even a new name. However, Red Bull recently lost their aerodynamicist to Mercedes which could lead to performance issues.
Will the RB19 help AlphaTauri reach the top?
The thought of AlphaTauri operating an RB19 intrigues David Croft. If AlphaTauri develops a significantly better car, it might be a feasible option as Daniel Ricciardo’s operation can help Yuki and Sergio Perez. The proposal, which is still only a paddock rumor, has been explored before. Racing Point used spare parts of Mercedes’ W10 in 2020, while Haas, a Ferrari-powered team, could improve their speed by simply doing the same.

With Ricciardo’s arrival, both teams’ existing driver lineups may have done better. There are concerns regarding his desire to retain his current position in 2024 as well. After leaving McLaren in 2022, the Australian reportedly turned down drives at Haas and Williams because he didn’t want to drive for teams driving at the back of the grid.
Due to Red Bull’s unrivaled performance this season, it is expected that it will continue to dominate the grid even in 2024. Ricciardo may be drawn to the idea of driving the RB19 with AlphaTauri since it would give him another opportunity to stay on the sister team for one extra season. It could also substantially boost their car’s speed while offering a secure platform for drivers like Tsunoda to show off their competence.
