The Belgian Grand Prix is right around the corner, and with the race inching only closer, everyone was excited about the qualifications. But with how the weather looks in Spa, it might now take place at all. Formula 1 has always had a system that is followed for the weekend.
The race weekend starts off with the teams having free practice sessions on Friday. Then the drivers have a qualification round on Saturday where they try to get in the fastest lap in order to win a pole position. This pole start gives them an advantage for the race on Sunday.
But with the weekend race at Spa, things may be changed after all. The weather seemed cloudy and with the rains pouring, the qualification for the race might get cancelled. Although it all depends on the weather updates which decide if the qualifications will take place or not.
While the discussion of whether the qualification will take place or not, FIA has confirmed the line-up that will be followed in case of cancellation of the qualifications. The Belgian Grand Prix although controversial, is one of the most important tracks of all time. However, Michael Schumacher has been the only one to win 6 consecutive times there.
It is 4.352 miles long and is also one of the most dangerous tracks in Formula 1 with a history of deadly crashes. With the weather for the qualifications seeming unreliable, FIA has decided that the grid will follow a certain system for the race. This will supposedly make the grid systematic.
What will the new grid positions be for the Belgian Grand Prix?
Since the weather seems to be making things complicated, FIA has come up with a line-up that will be followed for the Belgian Grand Prix specifically. Considering the dangers of this track, the qualification will be canceled in case of heavy rains. So for the line-up, the championship standings will be used for the race.
The drivers will take their places according to their standing on the Drivers Championship list. According to that Sergio Perez will be in the first position since he is second on the Driver’s championship. Following him will be Fernando Alonso on P2 and Lewis Hamilton on P3. The group will then be placed according to the standings except for Max Verstappen.
Verstappen has received a grid penalty after a gearbox mishap that was caught by the FIA. This will put him behind Lewis Hamilton and George Russell on P6. While the qualifications are being taken place so far and the second round of the qualifications is done for Spa.
The qualifications so far have Max Verstappen in P10 while Oscar Piastri has taken the lead by the end of Q2. The rains have been unpredictable while the track is wet in qualifications. However, with the weather seeming unreliable, the positions for the top 10 might be decided according to the Championship Standings.
