The ill effects of weight loss on UFC fighters have long since been a subject of concern throughout the history of UFC as the process, being excruciating in itself, makes the fighter weaker.

Derick Lewis recently talked about his excruciating weight loss journey. Lewis cut down his weight to manage his weight to fight Sergey Spivak at UFC Vegas 68. He showed significant weight loss.

Despite the weight loss, which was to pass the weigh-ins, 'The Black Beast' lost to Spivak in first round via submission. Lewis mentioned that his weight loss demeaned his performance.

Lewis also opened up about how horrible he felt. "It was a big eye-opener and it was in the back of my head during the fight. I felt like I actually died. It was a very scary moment.”

"I cut like 25 pounds in three days, not eating, just drinking water — probably a little to eat. Good thing it happened at UFC, they gave me everything I needed to get up and walk out of there."

Lewis's condition became even more critical at the time of weigh ins, "I actually passed out just before weigh-ins. I blacked out, my coaches had to carry me, make sure I stayed conscious."

The Black Beast is currently gearing up for his next fight against Marcos Rodrigo De Lima at the upcoming UFC 291, on whose media day he talked about his demanding weight loss journey

Lewis is currently on a three-loss streak, but his loss to Spivak was the one that opened his eyes. His fight against Marcos will prove to be an important pivotal point in his professional life.
