Nick Kyrgios has been inactive on tour this year. He has played a single match in the past seven months and has been recovering from a wrist injury. Kyrgios played at the Stuttgart Open, losing to Wu Yibing in the first round in straight sets. The 28-year-old last won a match in October at the Tokyo Open and has been injured ever since. There have been no words about this return to the sport.
The Australian recently confirmed that he will not be playing the sport for long. At the UTS event, the star said, “Just old bro! I’m getting old. 28. Yeah. But all the drinking and partying, I’m like 57.”
While being told he could play till 33, Kyrgios responded, “No chance. No way. Bro, there’s no chance I’m playing until 33. Kyrgios playing until 33 is insane! I’m not playing until 33. Nah, I promise you, when I’m gone, you’ll never see me again.” His partying lifestyle is well known on the tennis circuit, and he has been open about it.

Kyrgios had earlier mentioned that he would retire from the game immediately when he won a grand slam title. He said, “100 percent! It is a lot of training and a lot of work. I just want to be able to eat whatever I want and drink what I want to drink, and just relax.” (Via Daily Express).
He had a very successful season in 2022 with 37 victories and 10 losses. Kyrgios also reached the finals at Wimbledon and the quarterfinals at the US Open. This year, it has all been about recovery for the Australian No. 2, and he will likely play a match in the last few months of this season.
Injuries keeping Nick Kyrgios away from court
Kyrgios had pulled out of Wimbledon in the final hours before the first round due to a wrist injury. The seven-time tour title winner has pulled out of the Mubadala Citi DC Open, which is set to start next week. Kyrgios was seen in the Ultimate Tennis Showdown in Los Angeles a few days ago. Although Kyrgios was not seen in action on the court, he was coaching Frances Tiafoe.
Kyrgios mentioned earlier that the tour demands extreme physical fitness all year. He made serious changes to his lifestyle last year, with positive results. With his skills and reflexes, the two-time Washington winner can invest time in doubles. He and Thanasi Kokkinakis had won the doubles crown at the Australian Open last year, which shocked everyone.
Be patient with me my fans please…. It’s a process to get back to where I was. I know it’s hard for you to see me perform like today, but I need more time and hopefully can get back to where I was.

The 28-year-old has expressed interest in coaching young players. Even though he plays the sport without a coach, he claims that he knows the sport and has beaten the top-ranked players. For now, Kyrgios must recover from the injuries and win as many titles as possible before retirement.
