Scheduled to launch on September 6, 2023, Starfield will be available on Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and Windows PCs. Gamers also have options to purchase the Premium Edition ($100) or the Constellation Edition ($300) for exclusive 5-day early access. These will be added to the Xbox Game Pass as day 1 titles.
Following suit with Sony, Activision, and Microsoft who have hiked standard game prices to $70, Starfield joins the bandwagon. Nonetheless, this new normal doesn’t seem to deter Microsoft from featuring their latest AAA games, including Starfield, on the Xbox Game Pass right off the bat.
Will Starfield have co-op and crossplay?
Unfortunately, Starfield won’t feature crossplay capabilities. Despite being available for both PC and Xbox games, it doesn’t support multiplayer across platforms.
Starfield has not officially recognized cross-progression yet, however, players have the option to use cloud saves to move their game save automatically from one device to another and resume where they last paused. Despite not being marked as an ‘Xbox Play Anywhere’ title on the Xbox store, it suggests that the sharing of saves between PC and consoles is indeed possible.
As stated by Todd Howard, Bethesda’s director and executive producer, in a 2020 interview with Brighton Digital, Starfield won’t feature any multiplayer options, neither cooperative nor competitive, at its launch slated for Sept. 6. That said, it exemplifies the many Bethesda games that are predominantly single-player.
However, this hasn’t deterred modders from creating co-op modes for games like Elden Ring shortly after their launch, given the vibrant modding communities of Bethesda games.
Conversely, Starfield players won’t be devoid of companionship within the game. Numerous companions ready to join your exploits—as crew members or outpost workers—will be available.
While Starfield lacks direct multiplayer options, there are potential elements of community sharing. For instance, robust ship customization options in the game may allow creations to be shared and utilized by other players.
