Daniel Ricciardo started his career in Formula 1 with Red Bull. While his time there, he found his way to the top quite a few times, winning against Max Verstappen. After some time at Red Bull, he made his move to Renault. His time at Renault was not as successful as Red Bull’s. After Renault’s departure from Formula 1, Ricciardo made his way to McLaren.
He drove for McLaren until last year after which he was left without a seat in Red Bull. Christian Horner, the team principal of Red Bull had given Daniel Ricciardo an opportunity to be the reserve, third, and test driver for Red Bull for the season. While he still did not have a seat in a car for the races, he was working his way back up in the simulator.
Nyck de Vries on the other hand, had been struggling to bring in good results for the AlphaTauri team. Compared to his teammate Yuki Tsunoda, his best result had merely been a P12. After heavy consideration, Helmut Marko made his decision and Daniel Ricciardo was brought in to replace Nyck. Meanwhile, Sergio Perez celebrated his stay at Red Bull.
Will Daniel Ricciardo make his comeback in Red Bull?
Although Daniel Ricciardo has made his way back in Red Bull’s sister team AlphaTauri’s car, there are still speculations that he might replace Sergio Perez. Even though Helmut Marko has made it clear that Sergio Perez will be staying at Red Bull for quite some time, it is not completely out of the question.
But when Helmut Marko had been asked about Daniel Ricciardo driving for Red Bull again. He told Sport de, “We haven’t made any promises. He knows that if he performs well, there is a possibility.”
“Life alongside Max is certainly not easy. There are very few drivers who can withstand Verstappen in terms of speed and psychologically.”
He said that they had been equals when Ricciardo was in Red Bull and managed to challenge each other. But in the past few years, Max Verstappen’s reign has only grown. He has broken multiple records as of now and could possibly take his 7th consecutive win at Hungary too. Max Verstappen is leading the races and the Championship with almost 100 points ahead that the second driver, Sergio Perez.
Max Verstappen earned his second World Championship in 2022 after winning 15 of the 22 races. This season he has won 7 of the 9 races that have taken place and has also won most of the sprint races. While Max Verstappen continues to dominate in Formula 1, and Daniel Ricciardo only beginning his journey again, it could be some time until Ricciardo makes his comeback in Red Bull.
