Daniil Medvedev talks about his Wimbledon run
Daniil Medvedev had a solid outing at this year’s Wimbledon. He made it to the semifinal defeating Arthur Fery, Adrian Mannarino, Marton Fucsovics, Jiri Lehecka, and Chris Eubanks en route. His remarkable run was brought to an end by Carlos Alcaraz, who eventually went on to lift the trophy. It was a one-sided match as Alcaraz won 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 in straight sets.
While his semifinal flash left a lot to be desired, this was Medvedev’s career-best performance at SW19. The Russian had never made it past the fourth round in the past. When he asked about his performance, Medvedev said he was happy to have progressed, but disappointed too because he wanted to be the one to defeat Novak Djokovic.
“I would say like this – how can we say it – if one would ask me, Are you happy with the semifinal? I’m like yes and no. For sure if I’m in the semifinal, I want to win it. I want to play against Novak on Sunday. I want to try to hold the trophy,” he said (via Yahoo).
“But it’s my best Wimbledon so far. Normally on grass, I didn’t feel amazing. These two weeks I felt great. I’m trying usually after the losses to find the positives. I was in the four best players of the tournament,” Medvedev added.
Medvedev has vowed to return a better player next year. In the meantime, the former world number one is preparing for the US Open which starts next month.
