Lewis Hamilton has seen great success in his Formula 1 career. But sometimes success can come with being alone at the top. And that certainly seemed to have been the case. As Lewis Hamilton went on to win the Championships, there were more and more people who wanted to fight him for the championship title.
Even after becoming a 7-time world champion, it had been difficult for the Brit to have someone to lean on on his bad days. But while he also battled him for the title, Sebastian Vettel gave him a shoulder to lean on. Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton have been known for their legendary battles, but more than that their friendship.
The two have often been seen together talking and discussing their work life. Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton both have been very open about their friendship with each other. While Vettel has made sure he appreciates Lewis Hamilton’s talents and their long-time rivalry. But when Lewis Hamilton was asked about his friendship with the now-retired Sebastian Vettel, the question may have hit deeper for the Brit.
Sebastian Vettel receives an emotional message from Lewis Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton was asked about his friendship with Sebastian Vettel through their rivalry and his championship wins. And it may have made Hamilton a little emotional as he remembered his friend and the healthy rivalry between them.
Hamilton talked about it to Motorsports.com saying, “But when I talk about the journey that I’ve felt. I’ve experienced this sport and kind of often feel that it’s been relatively lonely. I would say he’s one of the few people that made it not feel lonely.”
“He stood by me through a lot of things. I always remember 2007, the press conference in Magny-Cours, and him being very, very outspoken in the driver’s briefing.”
Hamilton mentioned how he realized that Sebastian Vettel was soon planning on making his exit from Formula 1. He said that while there had been hints that he had given the Brit, he still hoped to continue seeing him on the race tracks. Hamilton also added that with the sudden news of his leaving, he may have not even gotten the time to reminisce about their journey together in Formula 1.
While they knew how to keep it professional on the race tracks they shared a much more personal bond behind the scenes. He continued to shower Vettel’s name with praises. Although he does not like putting labels like “legendary” and such, Vettel has been one of them in the sport. It upset him that he won’t see Vettel on the tracks but is sure that his friend would be doing great things outside the sport too.
