While there has been a lot of bad news surrounding Red Bull and their drivers. There is one driver who may be receiving good news after all. Yuki Tsunoda who has been a teammate to Nyck de Vries before, may be continuing his place in AlphaTauri. After Nyck de Vries’ sudden departure from AlphaTauri, the drivers have been on the edge of their seats.
Daniel Ricciardo who was first set to replace Sergio Perez, ended up testing for Nyck de Vries’ spot at AlphaTauri. Soon Nyck de Vries was fired and Daniel Ricciardo was welcomed into the Junior Red Bull team. After which Nyck started a commotion being seen with his ex-boss and Mercedes team principal, Toto Wolff.
Although this confirmed Sergio Perez’s seat at Red Bull it was not secure. Helmut Marko made a statement confessing they were not getting rid of Perez only because of his 156 points on the Driver Standings. But while the drivers had been facing tension about their future with their team and their seat in Red Bull. Yuki Tsunoda had been above the clouds. Helmut Marko had only good things to say when it came to Yuki Tsunoda’s performance.
Yuki Tsunoda has been driving for AlphaTauri for almost three seasons now. But with his performance impressing Helmut Marko, he might be extending his contract with Red Bull after all. Unlike his ex-teammate, he is getting an extension on the contract. Tsunoda has been able to drive AlphaTauri to its absolute best. Bringing the team their first few points of the season at the Australian and Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Will Yuki Tsunoda be driving for Red Bull next season?
He also drove a monster truck against Max Verstappen from Red Bull with great skills. When he was asked about his seat at AlphaTauri and how it is working with Red Bull he told Total Motorsport,
“As a driver, it’s good to have attention from other teams, but for now, I am happy with AlphaTauri. [They’ve] supported over the last few years, so I am not considering other teams.”
Tsunoda then was asked if he would ever want to join Red Bull to which he said yes. But he mentioned how his focus is not on Red Bull but on doing well at his team itself. Soon enough the topic of contract had come up and he seemed to be very confident in his performance. He said that he tries not to focus on things like these most of the time but rather on his race and performance.
Tsunoda mentioned Helmut Marko while talking about his contract saying, “I was speaking a little bit with Helmut and he’s happy with my performance which is the most important thing,”
While things may have taken a side turn for a lot of drivers. Yuki Tsunoda seems to be managing to hold his position so far. He is confident about his place in AlphaTauri. And while he wishes to be able to drive the Red Bull car he is content with where he is. After his P16 finish at the Silverstone Grand Prix, he seems to be in high spirits to prove himself at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
