David Beckham is preparing to welcome Lionel Messi to Inter Miami as the Argentine will be officially presented in front of the Miami fans this Sunday.
Ever since Messi confirmed his move to Miami, David Beckham has been showering the 2022 World Cup winner with praise. However, a throwback comment from David Beckham has resurfaced, revealing some interesting remarks about his newest signing.
Beckham appeared on a show back in 2020 where he was asked about the duo of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. During the interview, Beckham compared the duo by stating, “Cristiano is now obviously enjoying his time at Juventus and has had an incredible career, while Leo is a one-club wonder.”
“Inter Miami and the league are going to learn, as he starts playing away, how Messi moves masses.”

After Beckham’s comment, some fans quickly jumped to conclusions. Few suggested that David Beckham did not appreciate Messi’s ability to thrive in other leagues. However, since then, Messi made a move to PSG and has achieved significant success, winning the league title as well as the World Cup with Argentina.
David Beckham’s vocal opinions about Lionel Messi have been prevalent throughout the last decade, but his comments in 2020 have not been well-received by some of the Argentine’s fans.

In addition to making comments in 2020, David Beckham has consistently praised the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner. Throughout his career, Beckham has encountered Messi on several occasions, with one particularly memorable encounter taking place during Beckham’s time at PSG.
Now 48 years old and retired from professional soccer in 2013, Beckham’s final club was PSG. The former England international reflected on the significance of PSG’s match against Barcelona in the 2012/13 season of the UEFA Champions League. It was during this match that Beckham realized it was time to retire and hang up his boots.
During the tie, Beckham recollects, “When Messi was running past me, I made the decision to retire. We were in the lead. Barcelona scored after Messi came on. Despite my age, I found pleasure in playing, and our team performed well in both matches. We accomplished things to be proud of. We didn’t suffer a defeat against them.” Barcelona progressed on away goals with a 3-3 scoreline. (Via GiveMeSport)
Barcelona eliminated PSG from the Champions League. A few months later, Beckham, at the age of 38, retired from professional soccer.
In 2014, Beckham co-founded Inter Miami, and in 2023, he completed the full circle of the story by signing Lionel Messi from PSG.
