Lewis Hamilton is undeniably the pioneer of motorsport racing and has showcased heightened on-track mastery to equal the greatest record in Formula 1. However, what’s interesting is, the 7-time world champion also bears a certain level of stardom off the track through his craving for fashion and of course, the breathtaking tattoos inked all over his body.
For now, let’s focus on the latter! Hamilton flaunts a few of the best-looking tattoos on the grid, and all of them seemingly carry deep meaning to them.
The significance behind Hamilton’s tattoos
The Mercedes F1 star is highly spiritual and has openly acknowledged it in several interviews. Hence, to portray his love for god, Hamilton inked some of the most breathtaking tattoos on his right arm. The Briton opted for a sleeve featuring a rendered version of Michelangelo’s Pieta, a guardian angel, and a sacred heart.
The former was inspired by Michelangelo’s marble sculpture of a grieving Queen Mary carrying the body of Jesus post-crucifixion and is currently on display at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City. Hamilton also got a rose tattoo on his arm to cover up a scar from a karting accident when he was eight years old.
“I got my hand stuck under the go-kart whilst I was driving, and it went through my glove and right down to my tendon and it cut through part of my tendon,” he described the incident.
Moving further down, Hamilton has a bunch of distinct tattoos on both his hands, and are the latest additions to his tattoo collection. One of them is a swordsman’s sign which symbolizes strength, power, and heroism. Then, there’s the tattoo that depicts his star sign, Capricorn followed by an hourglass sign; all three of them on his right hand.

On his left hand, there are two interesting tattoos – sacred geometry which illustrates the architecture of the universe. And last but not least, the symbols of alchemy.
How did Lewis Hamilton get into tattoos?
You’re probably wondering about the origin story of Hamilton’s love for tattoos. Turns out, it was indeed his sister’s husband who inflicted a bit of interest in the Mercedes driver. Hamilton spent a significant part of his childhood watching individuals getting tattooed by his brother-in-law, a tattoo artist.

“My sister was engaged to, well, ended up marrying a guy who is a tattoo artist, so I grew up from a really young age, from around kind of 10 years old, viewing individuals getting tattoos,” he said.
Overall, Hamilton has over 15 unique tattoos inked on his body so far. But, of course, one can sense that there are more to come, considering Hamilton would want to continue revealing his life story through more visually stunning pieces.
