Ja Morant has struggled to keep himself out of trouble this year. In March, he flashed a gun on Instagram Live right after losing on the road to the Denver Nuggets in Colorado. Reports at the time suggested that he could be suspended for 50 games after it was alleged that he could have brought the gun on the plane to Denver. However, the investigation revealed that he did not commit such a crime. The NBA suspended Ja for 8 games then.
To make things worse for his reputation, Morant made the same mistake just a few weeks ago. He was caught flashing a gun on Instagram while jamming to music with his childhood friend Davonte Pack. This even shed some bad light on Pack, as NBA fans blamed him for Ja’s actions. Regardless, the NBA revealed that Ja will not be allowed to participate in team activities until further notice.
Ja Morant’s NBA future hangs in the balance
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver disclosed that the consequences that Ja will have to face will be revealed to the world after the 2023 NBA Finals. The Nuggets just lifted the Larry O’Brien trophy recently for the first time in their history.
Adam Silver on Ja Morant: “We’ve uncovered a fair amount of additional information. We probably could have brought it to a head now, but we’ve made the decision that it would be unfair to these players and these teams to announce that decision in the middle of this series.”

This means that the latest update on Ja’s situation could be on the cards. Not to mention that he could be fined heavily, or even face a long suspension. Fans have been eagerly waiting for this, while some have even used this as an advantage to gain some attention on the internet. Recently, a Twitter account posted that Adam Silver suspended Ja for the entire 2023-24 NBA season.

There has been no proof for this, which means that Ja has not been suspended as of now. However, that could be the case, especially considering that this is a second-time offense. Although carrying a firearm is not illegal in Tennessee (where Ja reportedly lives), Silver argues that players have to refrain from conduct that is detrimental to the league.
Morant’s team has even claimed that the gun used on Instagram Live was a toy and that some reports even claimed that Ja could be suspended for 30 games next season. With that said, only time will tell how this plays out for Ja, and the Memphis Grizzlies, who have been affected by his actions more than any other party.
