Andrew Tate, a former kickboxer and controversial influencer, has faced backlash on social media after he tweeted about Chicago.

The tweet, which has been viewed over 23 million times, described the city as "s*******" and questioned why anyone would choose to live there.

"Imagine living in Chicago on purpose. BY CHOICE. Looking at the entire globe, then looking around you at the s******* you reside in. And saying 'Yes. I want to live here" wrote Tate.

Andrew's tweet came after a "Teen Takeover" event where videos shared on social media showed young people fighting in the streets, jumping on a bus roof, breaking into cars, and setting them on fire.

Many users on Twitter criticized Tate for his opinion, while others agreed with him. Some poked fun at his recent arrest in Romania, but Tate responded by pointing out the high crime rate in Chicago.

Crime in Chicago has been a major issue in recent years, with a 20 percent jump over the past five years and a 41 percent increase from 2021 to 2022, according to police reports.

Despite the high crime rate, Chicago was ranked the 28th most liveable city on the Economist Intelligence Global Liveability Index in 2021 and one of 10 cities that improved its ranking that year.

Tate's tweet sparked a debate about the city's reputation and whether it is a desirable place to live. Some defend the city, while others express concern about the high crime rate and lack of safety.
