The 9-time Grammy Award winner Rihanna performed at the Super Bowl 2023 halftime show, where she gave a mind-blowing performance at the State Farm Stadium Stage.

There were 113 million viewers who loved her performance. However, it's surprising that the star wasn't paid for her halftime show.

Joanna Hunter, NFL spokesperson, told Forbes back in 2016: "We do not pay the artists, we cover expenses and production costs."

Brian McCarthy, the vice president of NFL communications, told Newsweek in 2022 that a union scale is paid to the union and then distributed to artists, so the headlines do not get the union scale. He said: "There is not an appearance fee, but the artists are indeed paid union scale."

As per Newsweek, for a high-budget event like the Super Bowl, the union SAG-AFTRA represents most actors, who might demand a minimum wage of roughly $1,000 per day, which would be a mere wage for Rihanna, whose net worth is estimated to be $1.4 billion.

Rihanna said at a press conference prior to her Super Bowl halftime show: "I get involved with every aspect of anything that I do....."

She continued: "Whether it’s the Super Bowl, whether it’s a makeup product, whether it's Savage lingerie… I want to see the copy on the website. I want to name every lipstick that I make. If it flops or it flies, my name has to stand by that."

Alexis Ohanian also retweeted @thefutureparty's tweet, along with his caption "Smart plug", which said: "Searches for Fenty Beauty soared 833% after Rihanna promoted it during the Super Bowl halftime show. The estimated media impact value? $5.6 million, according to Launchmetrics."
