PSG’s woes have taken a turn for the worst as Lionel Messi joins the injury list for the French club. This news comes at the worst time possible for PSG, as they face Bayern Munich in the Champions League next week. While PSG is yet to officially give an update on Messi’s injury, there have been reports that suggest that the Argentine superstar may have to miss the Bayern Munich clash.
Lionel Messi was part of the PSG squad that played in the Coupe de France match against Marseille. Messi played the full 90 minutes but was unable to turn the tide for PSG. The Ligue 1 leaders crashed out of the French Cup with a 1-2 defeat. To date, the Coupe de France remains the only competition that Messi has played but failed to win.
However, PSG’s French Cup exit wasn’t the only bad news that the French club received. Lionel Messi has now joined PSG’s injury list after it was reported that he has suffered a hamstring injury. As per MARCA, Messi will preemptively miss out on PSG’s next Ligue 1 match against Monaco. They also reported that while Messi’s injury isn’t serious, he is a real doubt for the upcoming Bayern Munich match.
PSG’s coach Christophe Galtier will have to make some tough choices in the coming weeks regarding his squad. PSG is yet to win its first Champions League title in its history. Although over the years they have had some incredible players in their squad, they have always fallen short of the title. The closest they have come to winning the title was back in 2020 when they lost to Bayern Munich in the Champions League final.
Kylian Mbappe will also miss the Bayern Munich game with Lionel Messi
Christophe Galtier has his work cut out for him as Lionel Messi joins Kylian Mbappe on the sidelines. With both Messi and Mbappe out, PSG’s hopes of winning the Champions League are looking bleak. Mbappe suffered an injury during PSG’s Ligue 1 tie against Montpellier. It was an off-day for the French superstar, who had missed two penalties before getting substituted due to the injury.
After the match, Christophe Galtier revealed “He took a blow to the knee, behind the thigh. He also has pain in the muscle. We think it’s not too serious.” However, later reports have confirmed that Mbappe will miss the first leg of the Bayern Munich clash next week.
Both Messi and Mbappe’s injuries might be caused due to their involvement in the World Cup 2022. Both players played in the finals of the World Cup 2022, where Messi got the better of Mbappe and lifted the World Cup trophy. PSG will be eagerly hoping for the return of their talismanic forwards as soon as possible, as they reach the business end of the season.
