After Matias Messi made controversial statements about Lionel Messi and Barcelona, the Argentine World Cup winner’s video showing his love for FC Barcelona has resurfaced. Matias is Lionel’s brother and it is unsure where his criticism of the club came from.
Matias had said that Lionel will not go back to Barcelona in a video posted on his son’s Twitch channel. He criticized Joan Laporta and even called the Catalan fans traitors.
“I have a SPORT cutting that says “Messi should return to Barcelona” and I’ve put underneath it “Hahaha”. We are not going back to Barcelona, and if we do, we are going to have a good clearout. Kicking-out, among others, Joan Laporta who is ungrateful after all that Messi did for Barcelona,” Matias stated, according to The Indian Express.
“People (in Barcelona) did not support him. People should have gone out to do a march or something, let Laporta leave and Messi stay. The Spanish are traitors. I tell you because I want it to come out of our guts and not listen to things that are not true,” he added.

In the resurfaced video, a reporter sees Lionel had hanged two jerseys separately from the rest, so he was asked, “Why are these two separate? Because they are something special? Because they are Barcelona and Argentina? Or because they each have a special story?”
Lionel replied, “No no no no, it’s simply because they are my two… my two loves: Barcelona and Argentina.”
Barcelona fans have been left wondering why Matias would make such comments. On the other hand, it was reported that Lionel’s camp had stated that these are Matias’ personal opinions and that Lionel has nothing to do with that.
Matias Messi apologizes for his comments on Lionel Messi and Barcelona
Matias took to Instagram to apologize for the comments he made. He explained that he regretted his actions and was just making a joke.
“I want to vindicate myself for what I said, I was just with my son and friends making a joke,” Matias stated.
“How can I think that of a club as great as Barcelona and its history the one that has given us so much to both my family and Leo?
Matías Messi: “I want to apologize for what I said. I was only making jokes to my son and his friends. How could I think that about a club so big as Barcelona, with their history and everything they did for my family and Leo. For us, Catalonia is our second home. I’m sorry.” pic.twitter.com/O29i05H7ah

“For us, Catalonia is our second home and that is public knowledge. I am very sorry and I apologize to everyone, especially to the Barcelona fans. Finally, I want to say that I only have the social network Instagram!”
Matias created huge controversy and got the limelight for the day because of his comments. However, it seems that, in the end, there was no truth to what he said.
