Who is buying Manchester United?

After a 17-year rule characterized by fan demonstrations and deteriorating on-field performance, United's current owners, the Glazer family, declared in November that they are willing to consider offers for the team.

The report claims that the Glazer brothers may try to sell all of their shares for about $6 billion (£4.9 billion). That would be considerably more than what was paid for Chelsea,.

More recently, the club has been involved in a legal battle with Cristiano Ronaldo after an interview in which he criticised the Glazers' ownership style and questioned United's desire.

INEOS, a business owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has formally entered the competition to acquire Manchester United.  He has previously shown an interest in purchasing Manchester United should the opportunity present itself.

According to Kieran Maguire, a football finance expert, Manchester United's share price increased by 17% as a result, raising the club's market capitalization by around $400 million (£336.4 million).

Along with Ratcliffe, the Saudi Arabian sports minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, has already declared that his nation intends to acquire United, which is estimated to be worth $5 billion.

There are also speculations about a 2010 attempt to take over the club by the Red Knights group, which is directed by Lord O'Neill, a renowned economist and former director of United.

United's announcement, which highlights the evolving financing of the international football industry, was also issued during a World Cup funded by Gulf petrodollars.
