Rhodes, who tore his pectoral muscle heading into the match decided to compete as planned and finished the match with an injured shoulder and picked up the win.
The former Intercontinental Champion was forced to undergo surgery following the incident and was sidelined for over 7 months before making his return recently at the Royal Rumble.
Talking on Logan Paul's IMPAULSIVE podcast, The former AEW star revealed that he convinced Vince McMahon for the match but the WWE founder was ready to "call it'' if he wasn't able to compete.
"I had a great conversation with him [Vince] and he was really clear about, 'Hey man, if you're struggling out there, we've got to call it,'" he said. (H/T: Sportskeeda, Wrestling Inc)
Rhodes also revealed that he was in shock throughout the match and he felt like he was about to puke so the referee had to check on him to ensure if he was able to finish the match.
Rhodes is now scheduled to face the Tribal Chief Roman Reigns for the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship at WrestleMania 39 if Reigns can stay as the champion heading into the show.
According to Dave Meltzer, WWE is planning to book the match between Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn at the Elimination Chamber.
