Novak Djokovic’s Father Won’t Watch Him Play After Recent Controversy

After a video surfaced showing Novak Djokovic's father Srdjan posing at Melbourne Park with fans holding Russian flags, a controversy erupted.

Djokovic, who was at the centre of a storm of controversy at the Australian Open the previous year over his COVID-19 vaccination status, has not commented on the event.

"I am here to support my son only. I had no intention of causing such headlines or disruption," Srdjan Djokovic said in an emailed statement.

"So there is no disruption to tonight’s semi-final for my son or for the other player, I have chosen to watch from home." Novak's father added to the same statement.

A spectator with a large "Z" on his shirt was also visible in the photos.

Following their invasion of Ukraine, the Russian military has reportedly begun using the letter as an identifying mark on the vehicles they employ in the country.

The symbol "Z" has also been used by certain individuals who are in favor of the invasion.

Srdjan Djokovic can be seen posing with the Russian spectators in a number of pictures.
