Brazilian Soccer Legend Pele Dies at the Age of 82

Soccer legend Pele who is considered one of the greatest ever to play the game died at the age of 82 on Thursday.

The Brazilian superstar was battling cancer after a tumor was found in his colon and his health condition worsened recently.

His death was officially confirmed by his daughter Kely Nascimentoon in a heartfelt post on her Instagram profile.

Pele is the only player in the sport's history to win three FIFA World Cup trophies. He also scored 1,281 goals in his career which is a world record.

During his playing days with Brazilian club Santos, Pele won two Copa Libertadores, two Intercontinental Cups, and six Brasileiro Serie A titles

Pele alongside Argentine Soccer legend Diego Maradona was awarded the FIFA Player of the Century award in December 2000 by FIFA.

Soccer's biggest stars including Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Neymar Jr have all paid tribute to the legend through their social media accounts.

According to reports, Pele's funeral will take place in his hometown of Sao Paulo. His body will be placed in the middle of the Vila Belmiro Stadium for the public to pay their respects.
