But amongst all the upsets, the U.S.M.N.T turned out to be the dark horse in the world cup as they qualified for the Round of 16 leaving behind Belgium, Uruguay, and Germany.

During the group stage, the USA won 1 lost 1, and tied 1 which was enough to grab the runner-up position and to qualify for knock stage as well.
