Soon after Justin Gaethje picked up an impressive victory over Tony Ferguson, Conor McGregor was quick to respond. McGregor claimed he was fighting Gaethje next. That could only mean two things. It was either Conor believed that somewhere down the line, Khabib will be stripped of his lightweight belt. Additionally, he could also be referring to yet another penultimate battle before the ultimate showdown against Khabib Nurmagomedov.

It’s a pretty logical step for McGregor to take. Ever since making a return to the octagon, McGregor has expressed that he wants to face Khabib Nurmagomedov at any cost. Dana White had also expressed his interest in the match-up. However, with Gaethje picking up a victory against Tony Ferguson for the interim belt, there’s hardly any argument on who faces Khabib next.
Justin Gaethje believes he can fight Conor McGregor next
Justin Gaethje and Trevor Wittman appeared on Joe Rogan Podcast and reflected their view on Conor McGregor’s recent call out.
When Joe Rogan asked Justin Gaethje if he was looking forward to fighting Conor McGregor, this is what he had to say.
“I do. I want to shut him up.” Gaethje continued, “I think he would take the fight. He wants to fight Khabib. I am the only way you have to go. He picked Cowboy. He could have gone through me.”
Gaethje is right when he says that he the only person standing between Conor and Khabib. He also mentioned how on a business standpoint, it makes more sense to fight Conor McGregor next. However, Gaethje looks set to fight for the undisputed title and plans to take on Conor McGregor after he is through with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Adding on to Gaethje’s remark on Conor McGregor about the former dual champion losing his clout among fellow fighters, Trevor Wittman added,
“Where’s this season? He keeps talking about this season. And don’t get me wrong, I respect the shit out of him. He can fight his ass off, but he as like I am gonna do a season. Fight like three times in three months or whatever he had said, but the whole thing is, people stop listening when you stop sticking to your words.”
